The Med iBookJam is a competition for teams of medical students and School of Medicine faculty who come together to create iBooks that provide easy-to-access learning materials on key medical subjects.

iBooks are multi-touch digital books that are created using iBooks Author, Apple’s tool to create and publish eBooks for iPhones, iPads and Macs. iBooks Author is an easy-to-use tool that enables anyone with a Mac to quickly produce interactive digital content in a manner similar to creating a Powerpoint presentation.

The first collection of UC Irvine Health School of Medicine iBooks originating from Med iBookJam teams has recently been featured in the Apple iBooks Store.

UNE Australia Collaboration  »

UC Irvine School of Medicine and the University of New England (UNE) in rural Armidale, Australia, have signed an agreement to establish a permanent high-definition videoconferencing link allowing the two institutions to hold joint classes and medical simulation training sessions despite a geographical separation of almost 7,500 miles.

In addition to using the state-of-the-art broadband videoconferencing capabilities of UC Irvine School of Medicine's Medical Education Building, new equipment is being installed at both campuses to let students participate in joint, real-time courses held in Armidale and Irvine facilities.

In addition, UNE's School of Rural Medicine will integrate many aspects of UC Irvine's innovative iMedEd Initiative, such as an iPad-based curriculum and portable ultrasound training. The two institutions also will exchange students.
