Curricular Systems

As part of our iMedEd Initiative, we are rolling out the following new systems for the School of Medicine:

See more details on each system below.

Ilios »

Ilios is our curriculum management system. It allows us to map the School of Medicine curriculum to identify what is being taught in our courses and find any gaps and redundanices.

Ilios also allows us to create a report of our curricular data for annual upload into the AAMC Curriculum Inventory and Reports system.

All curricular resources for a course or clerkship should be uploaded to Ilios. These resources should be appropriately identified appropriately by topics, MeSH terms and learning objectives.

To access Ilios:

  1. Visit: https://curriculum.hs.uci.edu/
  2. Log in with your HS credentials

Canvas »

Canvas, our new learning management system (LMS), is a software tool that enables you to support administration of a course with features such as course web pages, grade books, online quizzing, discussion boards and more.

Canvas is replacing the features we have previously used through EEE and MERLiN. It will become the primary interface for course materials by our students and the location of Medical Education calendars for faculty, staff and students in Fall 2016.

Canvas also will be integrated with Ilios so that all curricular resources can be accessed through the calendar of a Canvas course listing.

To access Canvas:

  1. Visit https://ucisom.instructure.com/
  2. Log in with your HS credentials

ExamSoft® »

Examsoft® is a system that supports creation, administration, scoring and analysis of assessments/exams.

By adopting Examsoft at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, we will be able to:

  • Maintain robust question banks
  • Securely administer exams on the iPad (and other devices) and limit our dependency on Scantron® forms
  • Analyze and improve the quality of our assessments
  • Track assessments in relation to competencies and objectives to support our accreditation and compliance efforts.

Poll Everywhere »

Poll Everywhere is an audience response tool that enables you to interact with your learners by asking them questions that they can answer via text message, Twitter or a web browser.

With this application, there is no need for physical hardware, such as a clicker device. Responses can be seen in real-time, embedded directly into your PowerPoint presentation — without having to jump between your slides and another window! — and also viewed from a web browser.

To access Poll Everywhere:

  1. Visit https://www.polleverywhere.com/ ›
  2. Log in with the account created for your course or department. To get this log-in information, contact your department/course coordinator or Julie Youm at jyoum@uci.edu.

When using Poll Everywhere from an embedded PowerPoint presentation or with Keynote slides:

  • Ensure that the Poll Everywhere Presenter app is installed on the computer from which you will run your presentation (see Presenting A Poll). (Note: The podium computers in Tamkin Auditorium, Nelson Auditorium, Telemedicine Theater and Colloquium Room 3070 already have this software installed.)
  • Log in to the Poll Everywhere Presenter app using the username/password for the account used to create your polls. To get this log-in information, contact your department/course coordinator or Julie Youm at jyoum@uci.edu.
