Continuing Medical Education

The UCI School of Medicine Office of Continuing Medical Education (CME) core mission is to provide innovative and high-quality educational activities to physicians and other healthcare professionals, which improves or expands delivery of medical care. Our programs are designed to:

  • Reinforce clinically relevant medical knowledge
  • Impart updated information on clinical practice and healthcare delivery
  • Introduce new ideas, skills and technology
  • Disseminate clinically significant research findings

Our mission is aligned with the UC Irvine School of Medicine, which supports the continuum of medical education through programs in undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education.

The Office of Continuing Medical Education works with the vice dean for medical education and the Continuing Medical Education Committee of the UC Irvine Faculty Senate to fulfill its mission and to ensure that its educational activities are in full compliance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

We are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine has been reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) and awarded Accreditation with Commendation for six years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure the medical community and the public that the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine delivers education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.

The ACCME System employs a rigorous process for evaluating institutions' CME programs according to standards that reflect the values of the educator community and aim to accelerate learning, inspire change, and champion improvement in healthcare. Through participation in accredited CME, clinicians and teams drive improvement in their practice and optimize the care, health, and wellness of their patients.
