Debt Management

The School of Medicine Financial Aid Office holds a series of in-person debt management and financial literacy sessions each year.

These sessions are held to help you manage your medical educational debt as well as to teach you the elements of personal finance.

We understand that most of you are anxious about financing your medical education and the resulting debt. We hope these sessions will help  alleviate this anxiety and reinforce the benefits of obtaining a medical degree. Some sessions are designed to assist you with the transition to and from medical school.

Debt management and financial literacy sessions are presented by either the School of Medicine financial aid staff and/or by experts in the field.

Some workshops are held at the university campus in Irvine, while others are presented at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. The list of topics for 2016-2017 will be published in September.

The following topics have been covered in previous workshops:

  • Money Management for Medical Students
  • Budgeting and Financial Planning
  • Saving vs. Overspending
  • Understanding Credit
  • Protecting your Credit and your Identity
  • Understanding Financial Aid
  • Repaying Student Loans
  • Buying or leasing a car
  • Buying a home
